From the great Harry Nilsson, and made famous in “Midnight Cowboy”, this is just a beautiful song that Beth heard me playing and singing at home one day and said how he loved the major 7th chords and how well she thought it fit my voice. So, for no other reason than for “Happy Wife—Happy Life” (because nothing rhymes with “Happy Husband”!), we worked it up, recorded it, and here it is! I love how it has a tropical kind of feel, which wasn’t intended, but just happened, because in the film, Ratso Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman’s character) is finally escaping the horrors of NYC and taking a Greyhound bus to Miami and palm trees and paradise. But alas…(SPOILER ALERT!)…he escapes NYC, but never makes it to Miami.
